Top 3 Hilarious PC Hardware Hoaxes of April Fool’s Day 2021: Retro, Razer’s “Razors,” and Unconventional Cooling Fans

April Fool’s Day, the annual day of pranks and hoaxes, has long been celebrated by companies and tech enthusiasts in the PC hardware industry. This year was no exception, as there were a number of hilarious and absurd hoaxes circulating the web. In this blog post, we highlight the top three PC hardware hoaxes of April Fool’s Day 2021.

Retro

The first hoax we’ll be highlighting is Retro’s “Switch Pro.” Retro is a hardware company known for creating retro-themed consoles and controllers. Their Switch Pro hoax was a fake Nintendo Switch successor with a retro twist. According to Retro, the Switch Pro would feature a CRT display and cartridge-based games, harkening back to the days of classic gaming.

However, there were a number of giveaways that this was a hoax, such as the absurdity of a Nintendo console featuring a CRT display in 2021, and a fan-made tweet from “Nintendo of America” promoting the hoax.

Razer’s “Razors”

The second hoax on our list is Razer’s “Project Hazel” smart mask. Razer is a well-known gaming hardware company, but this year they decided to branch out into the world of personal protective equipment (PPE). The result was a smart mask with RGB lighting, voice projection, and replaceable N95 filters.

But the real kicker of this hoax was Razer’s “Razors”. As a joke, Razer released a video promoting their electric razors, stating that they “took the same cutting-edge technology” as the Project Hazel mask to “make shaving not only safer, but more colorful and immersive than ever before.” The video is hilarious and well worth a watch.

Unconventional Cooling Fans

The final hoax on our list is the unconventional cooling fans from NZXT. Fans are a crucial part of any PC build, keeping components cool and ensuring they don’t overheat. NZXT decided to take this to the extreme with their unconventional cooling fans, which included a pizza-shaped fan, a donut-shaped fan, and a mini-fridge-shaped cooler.

While these fans were obviously not real, they were well-designed and had a lot of people wishing they were.

Summary:

April Fool’s Day is a chance for companies and tech enthusiasts to showcase their creativity and humor, and this year’s PC hardware hoaxes did not disappoint. From Retro’s Switch Pro to Razer’s Razors and NZXT’s unconventional cooling fans, there were plenty of laughs to be had. While none of these hoaxes were real, they certainly provided a welcome distraction from the challenges of the past year. #TECH
